What is "Texas" Walnut?

Texas Walnut is not a commercially available wood.  It comes from trees that have fallen in storms or been cut because of road or building construction in the counties around central and eastern Texas.  We hand pick the walnut logs and have them cut to our specifications and slow kiln dried to the proper moisture content.  Because of this, there is sometimes a waiting period for Texas Walnut.  But, it is well worth the wait...  Most commercially available walnut is steamed for color uniformity.  This Walnut is not steamed which allows the vibrant natural color of the wood to show through.
